The New Living Translation says: “Give thanks to him who killed the firstborn of Egypt. His faithful love endures forever.”.

Egypt is the symbol of slavery and this Bible verse tells us the extent of what God will do to free us. In the Old Testament, the Lord killed the firstborn in Egypt to free His children.

Similarly, in the New Testament, God allowed a firstborn to die so that His children could be freed from the bond of sin – that is the death of Christ. The Gospel was completed when Jesus died and rose again on the third day. Salvation was opened to those who would believe. We now have freedom from sin and death.
